Tune In. Listen. Create.

It’s Finding Me Friday. Ooooooh friends, I’ve been in a big, bad mood this week. I severely injured several muscles in one of my legs trying to get back in shape (this growing old thang…). Let’s just say it’s been a process and I’ve been quite frustrated that I’m having to slow down.

We know that creating art of any kind is a balm for our mind, body, and spirit. When we tune in and listen to what needs to be released through our art practice, often times the answers we’re seeking appear.

In my quest to tune out, tune in, and listen to what my body was telling me it needed this week to keep healing, I unwrapped a 30 in x 40 in canvas, chose an interesting to me palette, cranked up Public Enemy, and got busy.

What came through over the several hours I painted was feeling out-of-control, in a constant state of disjointed chaos - and I’m frigging tired of feeling that way. Once I made the last mark on the canvas, I took a big deep breathe in and whew, felt calm and free. I’m wondering if you feel the same with your creative practice.

A few thoughts:

  1. How does my creative practice feel when I’m able to tune in and listen to my inner knowing?

  2. What does my creative practice do for my overall well-being?

  3. How often am I honoring my need to create, as a wellness practice?

Happy weekend and keep creating.
